Jim has been active in his hometown of Duxbury , Massachusetts where he resides with his wife, Barbara Ann. They have one daughter, Michelle, a 1999 graduate of Harvard University . Jim has served as Chair of Duxbury’s Finance and Fiscal Advisory Committees and has been elected to public office on the School Committee and the Board of Selectmen, which he chaired in 1997.

Jim maintains the highest professional designation in the field of real estate finance as a Certified Mortgage Banker. Additionally, he is a State-certified General Real Estate Appraiser and has earned both a BA in Economics and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst .

As Founder and Chairman of New England Realty Resources, Jim Murphy is responsible for investor relationships, business development and strategic planning. Jim’s 29-year career in finance began in the Life Insurance Industry with MassMutual Life Insurance and continued through 1982 with UNUM Life Insurance Company. Jim's commercial real estate experience includes over $2.25 billion in transactions. 

Nationally, Jim is currently serving as Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (“MBA”) and its Board of Directors. He is a member of the Commercial/Multifamily Finance and Residential Boards of Governors and has served as Chairman of the Environmental Issues Committee, Commercial Real Estate Finance Council, and Strategic Planning Committee of the MBA.  Additionally, Jim is a member of Fannie Mae’s National Advisory Council.

Locally, Jim is a member of the Mayor of Boston’s Housing Finance Blue Ribbon Panel and has served as a past Director of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP).  He is also a supporter of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, one of the largest independent scholarship organizations for students working at Massachusetts golf courses.
